Meet Imelda Phillips
Imelda Phillips is an experienced performance lifestyle professional specialising in athlete wellbeing, personal development and transition support across high-performance sport. With a background in supporting athletes at academy, professional and national levels, she is passionate about helping people thrive both in their sporting careers and in life beyond competition.
With over a decade of experience in high-performance sport, Imelda founded Arete Sport to deliver world-class performance lifestyle support for athletes and organisations. Imelda holds both a BSc and MSc in Sport & Exercise Science and is a qualified Performance Lifestyle Advisor (TALS Level 3), with specialist certifications in Safeguarding in Sport and Mental Health First Aid.
Imelda has worked extensively within performance environments, providing one-to-one support, group delivery, and strategic guidance to sport organisations. Her approach blends evidence-based practice with a compassionate, athlete-centred style that empowers individuals to build confidence, clarity and resilience.
Throughout her career, Imelda has supported athletes navigating key moments of change — from balancing dual careers, progressing through performance pathways, and managing injury, to preparing for retirement and life after sport. She believes in the importance of proactive and holistic support that recognises the full person behind the athlete.
Imelda founded Arete Sport to bring this philosophy to life. Through her work, she aims to create environments where athletes feel understood, valued and prepared for whatever comes next.
Outside of her professional work, Imelda is committed to ongoing learning and development, staying connected to best practice across wellbeing, transition and human performance.
